Internship Immersion

1. I am most excited about being there the full day and experiencing what happens and what new animals come in. Since i started there i haven't really seen a wide verity of animals, but maybe being there longer i would get to experience that. I'm also excited about fixing up this ICU room which is this abandoned room in the back of project wildlife that once its fixed up will be like a medical room for the animals. I am interested in this job because i love fixing up stuff up and organizing.

2. I am most concerned about balancing homework with internship immersion because alot of the math i receive, i usually don't get and have to go into office hours which will be unavailable throughout these two weeks. I'm concerned that i will get stressed out at home and there will be nothing I'd be able to do about it.

Progressive Era

I think that the progressive era progressed through working conditions in the industrial factories, freedom, and the constitutional amendments.

Working conditions played a big part because women were treated poorly and stood out against it. In the Triangle Shirt Fire a catastrophe took place because of the staff locking the doors so they all suffered the unfair consequence of dieing. If it wasn't for a lot of the poor working conditions women and children faced, there would be nothing to gain from these disasters to then progress to not have them. We now know as a country that you can't have poor working conditions because of the freedom we are given from our constitutional rights.

I also think freedom has progressed greatly throughout the progressive era because of the rights that African American had as well as woman and children. They basically didn't have much freedom at all until strikes took place and the labor movement occurred. Freedom back then wasn't anything like the freedom we now have today. Colored people were treated unfairly and woman suffered through long hours in factories to get paid low wages until the 19th amendment through the U.S Constitution.

The Constitutional Amendments changed life for many people which progressed in the right path of what we have today." The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." This opened up many opportunities for the rights of woman to vote and voice their own opinion to their own country. In my opinion this wasn't just progress, but a great step to having equal rights and coming together as a country, which is progressing as a whole.

Outstanding Blogzzz

1. I liked Ana's Economic advice to Barack Obama because she had alot of great historical context and compared her current events to the historical events well, she used specific and thoughful quotes that really supported her piece of writing.

"In my humble opinion, the red line should continue to increase. My advice to you would be to create more Green Jobs that would put Americans back to work in a secure workfield.

In a way, Franklin Roosevelt's responsibilities during the Great Depression are very similar to the responsibilities you take on today. "On May 18, President Roosevelt submitted to congress the center-piece of his first hundred days: the National (Industrial) Recovery Act, or NRA." Roosevelt's plan was designed to promote recovery. It was set up to bring maximum work hours for laborers, minimum wages, and forbid child labor. My advice to you is to look back on our nation's history, especially the Great Depression. FDR's challenges relate so much to yours, so you can take away things to do, as well as not to do. My question for you is, when can we expect to see new jobs being created?"

2. I thought that Diana Barlow's Literary Analysis was really good because in her honors blog because she describes the metophors her book portrayed with great detail and evidence.

"Many metaphors and smilies were intertwined in the novel to compare the characters and situations as well. For example, when the movie Titanic became a huge hit, Laila and Mariam would always watch it, and thats where this quote came from; "Everyone wants Jack," Laila said to Mariam. "Everybody wants Jack to rescue them from disaster. But there is no Jack. Jack is not coming back. Jack is dead." (page 270) Such is a metaphor for life under the Taliban which was dangerous and a scary place. Or what Nana said to Mariam when she was a child that “Like a compass needle that points north, a man’s accusing finger always finds a woman.” (page 7) That quote can be seen repeated all throughout the novel because of women segregation, and how they could always be found in blame no matter what the situation."

3. I thought Amanda's Historical Writing was great because she took important issues in society today and compared them to back then and what plan she had to resolve our problems

""The energy efficiency efforts of California began in the 1970s and have already shown a green economy is a good economy. By adopting new building codes and appliance standards, Californians saved $56 billion between 1972 and 2006 and saw 1.5 million related jobs created."
I would then begin to brainstorm ideas on new energy sources we could look into and talk about how we should begin putting those plans into action immediately. Following that should be a green environment and a more stable economy!"

4. I really like Esther's blog because it was all around well thought out and had a nice style to it. All of her blogs were completed and they looked like they had a lot of time and effort put forth into them.

"In every time period there are many different things that happen in the world that make elections what they are. It is battle of opposing ideas, of two different candidates. They both have their own ideas about what they are going to do about all of the different situations that are going on at the time or previous issues that were either good for the country or bad. The previous events lead up to the conflicts between the two parties because they both have their own ideas, and they have to put them out there for the people to know what side they are on. Just like our most recent election had gone through with McCain and Obama. This is just a process that every election goes through and will go through for the rest of the years"

Charles Darwin

Science plays a big role in our world, and it wasn't for Charles Darwin alot of research would not have been uncovered. I think people should have responsibility understanding science because it relates to alot of our everyday lives. It should play a big role because there are unsolved mysteries about our world and the more scientists we have the more discovers can be made. It should be taught in schools because science is part of life and we should be educated on it. Science should influence our decisions because it should be based off what we know about the surrounding world around us.

Obama's Economic Advisor

Dear President Obama,
I'd like to talk about how the big CEO's are stealing money to buy themselves big bonuses. Are we just getting taxed more to benefit them and not the dull economy? My advise would be to have the some kind of organization be keep track of the money and bailouts to see where they are all going. If the millions of dollars are going no where what good does that do for America rather than just dig us deeper into a hole. The very rich CEO's from contributed the same type of greet throughout the gilded age. John Thain from Merrill Lynch just had to spend 15.4 mill on early bonus and new office supplies, then resign (or take the money and run). Great way to boast our economy!

John Thain, who engineered the sale of 95-year-old Merrill Lynch & Co. to Bank of America Corp. in September, was ousted after Merrill’s $15.4 billion loss forced the lender to seek more money from the U.S. government. "

This kind of relates how we pay taxes and we don't know where exactly it goes and what its used for. In my opinion paying for welfare for a single mom with 14 kids is quite ridiculous along with bailouts for the stock market crash that didn't help out so much. This goes back to creating an organization to "organize" where our money goes. It shouldn't have to be put to waste especially for people who struggle to earn money as it is. It just isn't fair.

Along with not being fair, J.P Morgan was a wealthy man who formed the U.S steel Corporation and sold stocks and bonds for billions of dollars in the 1800's. Along with the modern big day corporation managers he too gave himself and his other workers big bonuses. Nothing has changed in the sense that these kind of people are greedy and can get away with these things.
With "the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer", our society needs to come together and come up with a conclusion not just for the wasting of money but for getting back on the right track again. Do the rich need to get any richer? Why can't we balance our economy out rather then tip the scale. As we experienced so far in history, economic crisis like the Great Depression and the 1893 Scandal are devastating, along with the line of protests and strikes that went along with it. As we learned in the Great Depression it took many years to come out of and I'm sure that's not an option right now. I hope my advise give you some ideas on how we can resolve these conflicts for ourselves and our American people.

Great Interveiws

* Flexibility
-If your interview steers in a whole new direction, be flexibly and slowly direct it back. You might not get the 100% answer you might have wanted but being flexibly with make your interview go more smoothly.

*Conversational Interviews
-Try to have the interview be more like a conversation or story like, not so much scripted. When your just reading off questions from a paper and getting short answers there will be some awkward moments and it won't flow as well.

*Position of Camera
-The position of camera is how the interview is being shot. When the camera is going back and forth between interviewer and the person you are trying to interview, it lets you focus more on directly what the persons saying and give a more professional interview style to it.
